The Library Phantom

The Library Phantom is a book-loving spirit who haunts old libraries, archives, and private collections. He or she is often described as a scholarly figure in period dress, glimpsed between shelves or at a reading desk, and is sometimes blamed for misplaced books, open pages, or cold spots in a particular aisle.

History

Many libraries claim a phantom—often linked to a former librarian, a benefactor who donated the collection, or someone who died in the building. The spirit is rarely malevolent; more often they are said to guard the books or to be searching for a specific volume they never finished in life.
